Our Story
The Charisma Towels story begins in the early 1990s with our founder, Mark Townsend. As an avid traveler and lover of all things luxurious, Mark was frequently disappointed with the scratchy, thin towels provided at many hotels and resorts. He dreamed of launching a company that could provide hotel-quality bath linens to consumers for enjoying that same lavish experience at home.
After extensive research and planning, Mark launched Charisma Towels in 1995 with a small offering of premium Turkish cotton towels made using specialized weaving techniques for optimal softness. The brand was an immediate hit with customers who fell in love with the ultra-plush, extra-absorbent towels that felt like a warm hug after bathing.
As demand grew, Mark expanded the Charisma Towels product line to offer a wide array of bath essentials while maintaining rigorous standards for quality materials and master craftsmanship. Over two decades later, the company remains family-owned and run with Mark’s sons Brian and Eric Townsend now at the helm. Our Turkish Cotton
All of our towels, bath mats, and other products begin with premium long-staple Turkish cotton – revered globally as the softest, most luxurious cotton you can buy.
Turkey’s unique climate, soil, and growing standards yield cotton fibers up to two inches longer than other cottons. When woven into towels, these extra long fibers create many more points of contact between the fibers, resulting in enhanced softness, durability, and water absorbency.
We source all of our 100% Turkish cotton from family-owned farms and ethical cooperatives we’ve worked with for decades. The strong, long-lasting fibers are carefully ginned, combed, and spun into yarn then woven in small batches on antique looms using traditional methods.
This unparalleled cotton combined with generations of artisanal techniques allows us to create indulgently plush towels far superior to mass-produced products.
Our Weaving Expertise
Of course, starting with the finest Turkish cotton is just the first step. Over two decades, our craftspeople have elevated towel construction into an art form by pioneering weaving methods that enhance softness, absorbency, and durability.
Our proprietary SensSoftTM weaving maximizes the number of tufts or cotton strands exposed on the surface of the towel. More tufts equals more softness. The process also allows precise control over towel density and thickness for just the right weight.
For bath sheets and towels made for babies or sensitive skin, we developed an innovative double nap finishing. After the initial shearing and napping, the towels go through a second napping process to raise an additional layer of fine cotton fibers on the surface. This creates an incredibly soft, velvety texture.
These and other specialized techniques allow us to craft the perfect towel for every preference. Our diverse offerings include lightweight towels for warmer climates, midweight for all-purpose use, ultra heavyweight for maximum absorbency, and double nap for gentleness.
Our Commitment to Quality
Maintaining excellence from farm to finished product requires vigilance. We inspect our Turkish cotton at every step of production from the ginning facilities to the cooperatives where the fibers are combed and spun into yarn.
Those yarns are then woven on antique shuttle looms that allow our craftspeople to monitor quality as the towels form. Once complete, every towel undergoes a meticulous final inspection for even the slightest flaws. Any towels not meeting our exacting standards are rejected.
